Today, the Eighth in March, debuted a rap album that imbued my ears with a mellifluous ring all day long, that album? Lasers, by Lupe Fiasco… In this trailing post, I will post all you need to know about this album before the purchase.

First and foremost, Lupe Fiasco is no sell-out rapper of the caliber of Wiz Khalifa or even Lil Wayne for that matter, in a sense that he actually raps, and does not try to auto-tune himself in a marketing-pitch for the radio…. Oh no, Lupe has struggled to put out this album because of that, his record label seemed to tame him, on the contrary Lupe is like Miley Cyrus, he Can Not Be Tamed… While two songs do make me question Lupe’s intent, the rest of the album is music to my ears!

Fiasco looks down in shame at Atlantic Records

As I said, after the quarrel between the record label and Fiasco, it is a relief to finally see the end result, one blogger put it best:  :Albums that touch on paranoia and prophecy are common practice in certain genres. Artists and their particular record labels squabble and fight like schoolchildren trying to gain an edge in a sandbox. For the better part of the late 2000s, Lupe Fiasco has been mired in numerous star crossed moments. From the anointing as a hip-hop savior in the same vein as Nas a decade before him to having his debut album leaked onto the internet a full six months before it was scheduled to drop, everything has played onto Wasulu Jaco’s adopted stage name: a fiasco.”

Now rarely will I feature a quote by a blogger that long, but something of that caliber can not be beat, and I know few of you would have wound up seeing it… Check out his full article here: My favorite part of the whole album most definitely came from the second single, Words I Never Said:

Limbaugh is a racist, Glenn Beck is a racist,

Gaza strip was getting bombed Obama didn’t say sh**,

That’s why I ain’t vote for him, next one either,

I am a part of the problem, my problem is Im peacful…

Now, the only time you will see someone speak so freely about our anti-Utopian government is if you coincidentally strolled into a bar at 2AM to find a man who had been drinking too much liquor… Of course, I know that our Constitution’s Bill Of Rights guarantees you the Freedom of Speech, and what not, albeit many have been looked down upon as if they stole candy from a child in the Great Depression… Lupe Fiasco was certainly sober during the writing of those lyrics, how Lupe constructs his opinions in such a flow is a great enigma.

As I previously stated in one of the opening paragraphs, there was a selection of songs aimed for radio hype, much to Fiasco’s dismay, amongst the songs, I Don’t Wanna Care Right Now. Whether you can tell if an artist like what they created or not, I still believe 100 percent that Lupe Fiasco created this under great paranoia… I do like the song, do not get me wrong, but it is not classic Lupe Fiasco, heck he is starting to make a few songs that would suggest he is taking the change Common made… While these songs come seldom, it should be never that they come… Atlantic Records, please leave Lupe Fiasco the heck alone.

Of course, Lupe Fiasco is no puppet constructed of yarn, or any sort of puppet whatsoever, per se, he is not going to go down with out his opinion being put out.  The albums most well known song, The Show Goes on, pits him rapping the following lines:

Did you ever feel like you was being had,

That stuff that makes you mad,

They treat you like a slave, put chains up on your soul, and whips on your back.

Certainly Atlantic Records attempted this with the young Chicago rapper, and certainly Lupe Fiasco does not really care for it… On a concluding note, Words I Never Said and The Show Goes On will be the money gatherers for this album… An album I give an eight out of ten, the deduction of points was for a compromising of style… And as usual, always purchase music through authorized retailers… Oh, and buy this album!

As I briskly strolled around town today, running errands, also while visiting a school, I noticed about three children (more so adolescents) dressed in baggy jeans, and sporting a Wiz Khalifa t-shirt.  Attached are stories of the three encounters.

Of the first escapade from my travels at an anonymous location, I saw a child, around 14 in age, of Hispanic descent, with a mischievous look on his face, his smile flouted his braces, his t-shirt read “Wiz Khalifa Black and Yellow” I whispered mindlessly across to him, “that man has no talent”, seeing as I had work to accomplish, I continued my travels, without looking back, or even suggesting a response from him.

Secondly, the oddest of the trio of encounters, I noticed someone with a t-shirt that said “FREE WEEZY” on it.  Now, while I do appreciate the rapid fire word-play in which Lil Wayne subconsciously blabbers out in his opening verses of “Tha Carter IV” debut single, I still believe him to be nothing but a drug enhaling auto-tuned rapper, synonymous for, I do not like him.  I asked the teenager with the shirt “Excuse me, but, is there something that Lil Wayne needs to be freed from other than the enigma of how to get better at rapping?”

The child blankly stared at me and spoke, “Yo that homie is in jail!”  Correct me if I am wrong, my viewers, but was Dwayne Carter not freed from prison about a month or two ago?

Image Courtesy Of Swagbucks; Shirt was not seen on streets today

Finally, I had my final encroachment, this time, with a Caucasian teen, of whom I did not stereotype, wearing a Wiz Khalifa T-Shirt that said “Rolling Papers” on it… Before I lectured about the history of rap, I wondered what kind of t-shirts are they allowing into our public school systems these days? Anyways, I gave the child a piece of my mind, saying Wiz had little talent at all, and he said “I know I saw that on a blog called ‘Jacob’s Sports” No, he did not actually say that, he just told me I was full of crap, and I was stupid.

After all this oddity, I conjectured this day needs to be called “Wear No Talent Rapper’s Apparel”, I did not see any Slim Shady clothing on…. Since he is a beast.

Now, as soon as this post is published to the internt, and goes viral…. I will probably have about seven comments proclaiming “Taylor Gang is the best” or “Yo, you bout as ignorant as Limbaugh” etc…. Honestly though, get sober, and go listen to Wiz Khalifa, the guy is imbued with as much rap talent as Goldilocks bowl was imbued with pooridge after the three personificated bears raided her house.

Trying to find a drug-free image of Wiz is a lot harder than you think! Image courtesy of swagbucks!

First of all, many of my viewers may recall a time when music videos had meaning behind them… Well certainly that time is not now, as Wiz Khalifa’s latest gig, On My Level, shows him taking shots with girls, and smoking the whole video…. How can you people like this junk?  Go watch I Need A Doctor’s music video… And then watch anything Wiz created, and maybe, just maybe, you will finally take off your Taylor Gang glasses, and see the world for how it is.

Two major rap albums are coming out this March, the eighth Lupe Fiasco’s Lasers debuts, with the trailing singles of “The Show Goes On” and “Words I Never Said”, outside of Eminem, I have never seen such strong lyricism in a song!  This will be a telling point for rap, whether people still appreciate real rap or not.  Albeit, the 28th is a whole different story, out comes “Rolling Papers” now I already have proclaimed the ridiculousness of Wiz Khalifa, but if this album sits atop the charts that week, I will assume that everyone has lost all self-respect for themselves…. His music is trash, its that simple!

Seeing as only one simile has been provided to you, I take this time to bring forth one more!  Wiz Khalifa is more overrated then North Carolina was in the AP Poll after being five hundred, last year!  Also, if Khalifa deserves a Grammy Award, then the the duke and the dauphin in Huckleberry Finn deserve a Noble Peace Prize… For you illiterate Wiz fans, the duke and the dauphin were criminals, likewise, that if-then statement is synonymous for “Khalifa does not deserve any form of an award”!

On a concluding note, to try and muscle up more views, I will take a page out of Wiz’s book, and randomly shout out two colors!

RED AND SILVER, red and silver, yeah, you know what it is, red and silver, red and silver, its the theme colors to Jacob’s Sports, yeah that’s not stunting! RED AND SILVER! RED AND SILVER! YEAHHH!

Dear Wiz Khalifa,

Go to Kansas, be swept up by a twister, head to the land of Oz, get on your knees, and plead the Wizard to work a miracle…. And give you some rapid-fire wordplay, or at least a tidbit of rap talent! It’s a long shot, but you did make it big, so we know anything can happen!

With little to no respect,

Rap fan.

As I was watching the Bulls stage a miraculous comeback against the division-leading, star studded, Heat, an idea came to me…. After about two seconds of thinking, I conjectured that to improve my blog, I should involve the users more! Maybe add an extra poll here, or an extra poll there…. Honestly, the comments are rather low, seeing as most viewers are non-wordpress members.  Regardless, this right here, is the finished project, where viewers can vote on what their favorite song of the week is!

NOTE: Most of these songs will be of Pop or Hip Hop origin, and will be recently released! Also, images come from, not all are official cover art!

  1. I Need A Doctor, Dr. Dre, Eminem, and Skylar Grey The powerful trio performed this song at the Grammy Awards, in what is the favorite to win this week!  The music video just released a few hours ago on MTV….. Eminem and Dr. Dre prove why they are the top rapping duo in the game, albeit whether or not they are the top duo in this post, remains to be seen! Surprisingly, my vote will not be cast to Eminem, who remains my favorite rapper!
  2. Words I Never Said, Lupe Fiasco and Skylar Grey This right here is the single in which I cast my vote to!  Much like I Need A Doctor, I have a whole article just praising Lupe Fiasco and the Words He Never Said!  The political bashing lyrics, Skylar’s mellifluous tone during the hook, and the beat, combine to win my vote!
  3. E.T. Katy Perry and Kanye WestKaty Perry’s newest single is yet to storm the radio’s, per se, it was just released a few days ago, I fully expect this to be the number one song in America!  Because everysong Katy puts out makes it big, this one will be no exception.  She sounds great, and as a rap fan… I love this song, even though my dismay is great with Kanye, who seemingly had the auto tune on for both of his verses.  Katy Perry is the reason this song makes this list!
  4. Born This Way by Lady Gaga Impressive vocals are displayed by Gaga in this fan favorite!  In case you have lived as a recluse these past two weeks and are yet to turn on a radio, Gaga sings  about being Born The Way she is, and consciously refers to God numerous times.  If this song wins the poll, I will have no shock, at all.  Gaga fans indeed come in large masses, likewise, this song will give The Dre/Eminem col-lab a run for its money!

Always purchase music through authorized retailers

Listen, my personal opinion that Lupe Fiasco is the most under rated rapper in the game today, and I promise to bring you reviews of his upcoming album, Lasers ,the week it is released! My personal suggestion to you is to buy his album.

Almost everyone has heard his single “The Show Goes On”, as it proves motivating for ghetto children, and boasts a beat that has been featured at many sports events! Whether you appreciate the catchy hook, the able-minded lyricist, or just like rap, this song is definitely for you! On a side note, the music video for this song was recently released, what does everyone think of it?

Inside my head, is filled with Words I Never Said. Now, this song already deserves some form of a Grammy, but of course, I am not the academy, henceforth awards will more than likely go to a bunch of non-contenders! Any who…. Whether its the mellifluous tone of Skylar Grey’s verse, or maybe its the politcal-bashing lyrics that Fiasco displays, whatever the reason be, I love this song. The big stage is in need of Lupe Fiasco, I will repeat myself, buy this song! I sound as redundant as the info-mericials on Sunday mornings, albeit Lupe is really talented! My favorite part of this song: “Limbaugh is a racist, Glenn Beck is a racist, Obama doesn’t say sh!!, thats why I ain’t vote for him, next one either, Im part of the problem, my problem is Im peaceful!” Thank goodness for the Bill Of Rights, or this song would not be possible! To music lovers, politically accurate scholars, Limbaugh, Beck, and Obama, and everyone else in the universe, listen to this song! Disappointment will not reach you!

Lasers premiers March the Eighth, always purchase music from authorized retailers!

I am not doing four things about sports today, per say this is exactly what is replacing it! I was outraged at the “Best New Artist” award as well as the “Album Of The Year” and “Record of the Year” awards, I have never, ever, felt this strong about a music related topic before in my life! This post in my view is a must read!

  1. Justin Bieber, Drake, nominated for best new artist, and get dethroned! I would love it for you guys to comment on this and explain to me how both of these two artists got snubbed! It makes no sense at all, if you look up the word “nonsense” in the thesaurus, I bet you that it will read “see 53rd Gammy Awards!”. Kanye’s song puts it best ” I mean this stuff if freakin ridiculous!” The song has no relation to the Grammy Awards, albeit it should! Speaking of Kanye, I wish so badly that he would’ve interrupted Esperanza Spalding and/or Arcade Fire…. The only words I can muscle up are “at least Eminem performed” Kanye tweeted it best “D@*n… I can’t find the words to explain how I feel about the best new artist award… Don’t wanna say the wrong thing”
  2. Eminem Rips Up Stage! Joined along side by Rihanna, Dr. Dre, and Skylar Grey, Eminem had the best performance of his life, in what I like to call “the whole reason I watched the Grammy awards!” I was so happy that he performed to perfection, you could see his veins popping out of his face like the seems on a baseball. Unlike many stars, Eminem never lip sings, henceforth I pray that he goes on a nation-wide tour! Please Marshall! Dear Eminem, you deserved all ten awards you were nominated for! As a writer, bias is supposed to not show, albeit its a strong opinion of mine that he is the king of music.
  3. The biggest hoax of all time, Arcade Fire wins album of the year! If I have to use a thousand words to convince my readers that they did not deserve album of the year, then I will. Eminem, Katy Perry, or even Lady Gaga deserved this award. I feel like writing the Academy who decides these awards and giving them a piece of my opinion! No matter how redundant it gets, because the enigma of how they won has perplexed me ever since they opened the envelope! Eminem had the number one selling album of the year, and I am more than sure Arcade Fire was not even top ten. Not that the numbers are a factor, but they should have some force! When deciding the seeds for College Basketball on Selection Sunday, its a number game! Not a “well these folks have never won before”! You don’t give Southeast Missouri State a number one seed because it would change the flow of things! Why give Arcade Fire the Grammy! Ahhhh, its just insanity, how someone could be so discluded from society as to where they think Arcade Fire>Eminem, Katy Perry, and Lady Gaga! Man, they really got this one wrong! Eminem, I know the chances of you reading this are more minuscule than that of winning fourteen straight NBA Championships, but if you are, please know that the public’s overwhelming opinion is that you deserved a handful of awards last night!

Eminem should cross arms as he gets snubbed at Grammy Awards!

I apologize for the unkind bashing, contrary that is just what I believe you deserve. NOTE: I also believe that a few songs deserved song of the year more than Need You Now did.

In this post, I will only pick winners, and not give explanations! These are so hard to pick because all the songs are soooo good! For an extended preview of the ALBUM OF THE YEAR, I will refrain you to here:

  1. Record Of The Year: Love The Way You Lie, Eminem and Rihanna
  2. Album Of The Year: Recovery, Eminem
  3. Song Of The Year: Forget You, Cee Lo Green
  4. Best New Artist: Justin Bieber
  5. Best Female Pop Vocal Performance: Katy Perry
  6. Best Male Pop Vocal Performance: Bruno Mars

  9. Best Pop Instrumental Performance: Jeff Beck
  10. Best Pop Instrumental Album: Kenny G
  11. Best Pop Vocal Album: Katy Perry
  12. Best Dance Recording: Rihanna
  13. Best Dance Album: La Roux
  14. Best Rap Album: Eminem
  15. Best Rap Song: Eminem
  16. Best Country Duet Performance: Lady Antebellum
  17. Best Music Video: Love The Way You Lie
  18. Best Country Song: Need You Now
  19. Best Rap/Sung Col-lab: Empire State Of Mind/Love The Way You Lie
  20. Best Rap Performance By A Duo Or Group: My Chick Bad/Shutterbug
  21. Best Rap Solo Performance: Not Afraid

NOTE: There are about ninety other awards being given out, these are just a few I chose to pick!

Album Of The Year Preview

Its Grammy Sunday, rivaled by only the Super Bowl for the most exciting Sunday of the year!  Here at Jacob’s Sports we break-down the nominations of the album of the year, and give you our prediction!

Teenage Dream, by Katy Perry In what certainly is one of the most sang along to pop album of the year, Katy Perry joins other California Girls while she lives her Teenage Dream at the 53rd Grammy Awards!  This album was one of the top five sellers of the year!  Will the Fireworks go off for Katy Perry?  Will she win this award?  If this was based on radio plays, honestly she could win it, its hard to find a major radio station not playing “California Girls”, “Teenage Dream”, or “Firework” at any given moment!  Perry has a good as chance of any for bringing home the trophy!

Recovery, by Eminem If I were to tell you this is not my favorite album of all time, you’d be saying “I love the way you lie”, because personally I believe this album deserves to soldify Em’s return to rap, and give him the trophy!  That is why, this is my pick for album of the year!  It features Kobe, Lil Wayne, Pink, Rihanna & Slaughterhouse, and features an all-star line-up of producers, including Dr. Dre.  My favorite track off this album rarely sees any air time, and is title “Talking To Myself”, if you have time, go check it out!

Tracklisting for Lady GaGa's 'The Fame: Monster'The Fame Monster, by Lady Gaga The main reason this has slipped out of discussion is because it came out such a long time ago and its songs rarely are played anymore!  Telephone, featuring Beyonce is amongst of slew of other hits including, Alejandro, Bad Romance, and Monster.  This is the album that is on few predictors radar, but has the opportunity to win big!

The Suburbs, by Arcade Fire Now I am not going to be like all the other guys and act as if I know anything about this album, because I do not.  None of us over here do.  I do not want to go on youtube, type it in and listen to the songs because if none of us have ever heard of this album, it will not win.  Do not even bother with this one folks, seeing as it will not win!

Need You Now, by Lady Antebellum I believe Need You Now was number one on iTunes for many of weeks, but other than that, non-country fans know little about this album.  We all know the melody from the hit Need You Now, albeit this album does not prove much depth, and for that reason I do not think it will win!  Great song though!

My Pick: Eminem Recovery!

Music Review: I Need A Doctor

Currently atop the iTunes chart, is a song produced by Alex Da Kid and Dr. Dre, its Dre’s first single off Detox, featuring Eminem and Skylar Grey.  For those of you who have not heard it, I can probably put the whole thing into a nutshell.

First off, I’d like to give props to Skylar Grey, who has sounded brilliant once again, she’s the girl who sang this chorus, along with Diddy’s I’m Coming Home.  She deserves a Grammy sometime, because her voice is more mellifluous than everyone’s.  They are just pale in comparison.

What struck me as odd, is Eminem got two verse, and Dre only got one.  Eminem raps about how his mentor, Dr. Dre, really needs to wake up and put out some music.  He also thanks him numerous times “you picked me up, breathed new life in me” and “I don’t think you realize what you mean to me, not the slightest clue”, all in all, Eminem hit another high note, which is all he’s hit since the release of Recovery.

Dr. Dre with best friend, fellow rapper, Marshall Mathers

When will Detox drop? Eminem raps about how Dre needs to step it up, and that’s just about what he does in his closing verse, which I didn’t appreciate at first.  Dr. Dre will forever be a legend, but at the very end he says “one more CD, and then I am packing up my bags.” I hope that is just a figure of speech.

Dr. Dre said that Detox will drop on 4/20, albeit his associate denied all talks of that, I guess we’ll have to wait and see.  I give this song a 9/10, seeing as it was indeed amazing, but Dre’s verse just wasn’t “great” for me.
