Hi guys, just for you people who are wondering, My Picks will not be returning, until tomorrow afternoon, sorry for any inconvenience.

Nova is Supernova. The Yankees are now 3-1, even though critics acclaimed them to have the worst season they’ve had in the 21st century, fear not though, as rookie fourth starter Ivan Nova got the win yesterday, with help from Posada and A-Rod’s homers.  Rivera got his third save of the season.

Congratulations Connecticut. Lets take this time out to honor our 2011 champions, the UCONN Huskies, a team’s who stingy defense caused the Bulldogs to have one of the worst shooting percentages recorded in a title game.

White Sox start 2-1

Posted: April 4, 2011 in Baseball, Sports

The Chicago White Sox had high expectations for themselves heading into this season, and wanted to prove many critics wrong, the ones who proclaimed this team would finish third or fourth in the division.  And, the Sox started the season in great fashion, winning two of of three game series with the Cleveland Indians.

Coach Ozzie Guillen was semi-happy with his clubs performance over the past week, and that’s mainly because of how well his ball club hit, putting up 15 runs in the first game, Adam Dunn and Carlos Quentin both had a double, and a home run. Another reason to smile, the White Sox had ten players hit safely, Saturday the team recorded another eight runs!

The starting pitching has been okay, Buerhle gave up four runs in six innings in game one, Danks only gave up two yesterday, and Edwin Jackson only gave up 3 runs in the Sox second game… The obvious flaw here, is that the White Sox bull pen has given up way too many runs already this season, and Ozzie expressed discontent over this matter.

My prediction is that the bullpen will mesh together in time, and as long as the White Sox keep hitting, the White Sox will keep winning.

Daily Dose will come much later in the day, as well as a feature on the Chicago Cubs, please check out home run corner!

Butler Bulldogs vs. Virginia Commonwealth Rams Let me just give a shout out to Brad Stevens, head coach of Butler, for defying all odds in back-to-back seasons, and making two straight Final Fours!  Its funny that an eight seed can be a favorite in a Final Four game, but that is just what happens when your facing an eleven seed.  How about Shaka Smart? His team, the Rams, wasn’t supposed to even be in the field, and they had to win a play-in-game to get to where their at… In the locker room before games he seldom spoke, rather he would show clips of announcers dissing VCU, like Dickie V, when he said they shouldn’t be in the field, or Charles Barkley saying the team had no shot at beating Kansas… Well they did, and in this tournament alone, they have beaten a PAC 10 school, a Big East school, a Big 10 school, an ACC school, and now a Big 12 school, that’s just incredible!  i recently purchased myself a VCU t-shirt, yeah, I jumped on the bandwagon… Bias affects my pick, but… VCU!

Kentucky vs. Connecticut While its hard to compete with the excitement of two Cinderella teams squaring off, this game is probably going to be one of the closest Final Four games in history, as Brandon Knight faces off against Kemba Walker’s Huskies, a team that has now won nine games in a row, all on neutral territory.  But the question remains, can Kemba keep turning out the victor?  I believe so, but if the Wildcats are going to win this game, then they need to stop the penetration… How can Kentucky win this game?  As I said, defensively they need to stop all penetration, and on the offensive end they need to go down low, Connecticut is not very deep.  So, who will win?  The answer is simple, whoever has more luck.  Thats usually how March Madness is, which team gets hot and lucky?  Connecticut will win though.

Detroit Tigers vs. New York Yankees The Yankees blasted the Tigers on opening day, winning 6-3, Joba Chamberlain became the victor, and Rivera got the save.  I expect to see a more focused Tigers team today, as they again compete on a national level.  While I expect it to be close, I think that AJ Burnett shows some consistency, and the Yankees win.

April Fool’s!

So, shall i get started?

Will it be 28? The Yankees looked awfully good yesterday in their 6-3 win over Detroit, but the question remains, will they continue to win? They have the record for most consecutive Opening Day home wins, with 11!  That’s not too good, is it?  Anyways, Curtis Granderson made two great grabs in the outfield yesterday, and hit a game opening home run!  He was the player of the game in my eyes.

Real life Shark attack. Now that the playoffs are closing in on the NHL, every point counts, and usually games usually turn into low-scoring affairs, but in San Jose’s case, this was not true.  They dethroned Dallas winning 6-0, which must have pained Hawks fans because former Hawk Niemi had the shut out, and Ben Eager (former Chicago player) was the third star of the game… Great management Chicago!

Pick!

Chicago White Sox at Cleveland Indians The White Sox are my suprise team this year, and I actually am going to do a few features on them here and there… They open up the season at Cleveland, with Buerhle on the mound.  Watch for Alexei Ramirez, as he will probably have another great season! White Sox win.

Other games to pick with no caption (winner of mine is in bold)

Chicago Cubs vs. Pittsburgh Pirates The Cubs are the home team in this one, yes I did add a caption… I had an article up earlier about how the Cubs will have a decent season, but still fall short of any prize of which eyes have been set on.. So, it shouldn’t surprise you that I am taking the Pirates.

Houston Rockets at Philadelphia Phillies

Boston Red Sox at Texas Rangers

Standings:

  1. Musicfan58 (667 win percentage)
  2. Jacob’s Sports (659 win percentage)
  3. Fielderisnotafielder (562 win percentage)
  4. John Wall (500 win percentage)
  5. History of Sports (500 win percentage)
  6. FunnyBunnyMoney (444 win percentage)

Last year, like every season, tickets for the Final Four had to be purchased a year in advance, for a pretty penny too, only now, tickets are practically being given away down in Houston as nobody wants to see an eight, eleven, third, and fourth seed play…. But I ask, why? I mean, its so exciting to be at the games, and now you get to see part of history, as an eleventh seed may just take home the crown!  To my readers, I suggest you go down to Houston, buy a ticket, grab some popcorn, and jump on the Virginia Commonwealth bandwagon!  But first, read my Final Four Preview!

I also hope that you appreciate the standings, as I had to go through everyone of my posts to add these up.

I’m back, and so is baseball! Which of the two is more exciting?  If you answered “Jacob coming back”, you have a problem!  Every single match-up will be previewed (some more than the others), and every game will be predicted a winner, join in the comment section!

https://i1.wp.com/webspace.webring.com/people/ga/aneresnyy/derek_jeter.jpgDetroit Tigers at New York Yankees How fitting is this one?  Two teams that will finish in the top half of their division, and have a great chance at winning it… The Yankees are going to be good this year, believe me, just not as good (rotation wise) as they have in previous seasons… This will make no difference at all in this game as CC Sabathia is pitching, against Justin Verlander.  Derek Jeter is my sleeper pick this season, as he will hit .300 with 24 home runs! Home town Yankees win this one, 4-3. (NOTE: Numbers are not necessary in picks)

Atlanta Braves at Washington Nationals According to CBS Sports, Stephen Strasburg is not on the Washington depth chart, per se he is in the minor leagues right now… Soon, he will be brought up, and that’s when the Nationals will start to shine (I pick them to make the playoffs)!  Still though the Nationals’ pitching is decent, Livan Hernandez will get to the start this afternoon, against Derek Lowe.  The hitting for both teams is something fans have been questioning, and today, the nay-say’ers will get their answer.  Nationals win.

L.A. Angels at Kansas City Royals The loss of Zach Greinke hurts the Royals, but they have so much young talent, I have been trying to preach this for months!  In two years, they will be in the playoffs, and this year, they have a shot at it [the playoffs], only Luke Hochevar (starting today) is no stud, he still throws accurately… The Angels should have a great season, only I am not a fan of their infield, Vernon Wells is my sleeper! Angels win!

Milwaukee Brewers at Cincinnati Reds In an earlier post, I had predicted these two teams to duel for the division’s top spot, henceforth I find it fitting that these two teams face off on opening day. Edison Volquez starts for the Reds today, I hate to admit it, but he is my favorite pitcher. This game should be high scoring, around 5-4, or so, the Brewers will win.

NOTE: The preview’s of the later games will come in a later post, stay tuned!

I broke down the other two regions in the previous posts, and here comes the second post!

Southeast Region: I called it, the upset over Pittsburgh, and now we have an eighth ranked team playing a four seed, Butler and Wisconsin… Frankly, I think Wisconsin is very overrated, even though they already beat Ohio State earlier this season, and I think Butler advances to the Elite Eight.  Jimmer’s Cougars will play a team that is also overrated, the Florida Gators… Yes, you can tell where this one is headed, Florida will loose, BYU advances to the regional finale.

Southwest Region: Other than Duke, there is no team I love to watch play, more than Virginia Commonwealth, this new found love just became as I saw them play live Friday and Sunday night, at the United Center… Its a great atmostphere, when the eleven seed wins three straight games, and is now in the Sweet Sixteen… They play an aggressive defense, and they rarely miss the many threes they take… Bye Purdue! Notre Dame was thwarted by Florida State, the team that VCU plays.. And in the top half of the region, Kansas should blow by Richmond, but many thought that about Northern Iowa.

NOTE: I will be taking a short leave of absence, the rest of the week, and when I come back, its baseball time!!!

You have to love Virginia Commonwealth University, unless you are Purdue, or Georgetown, in which case, go ahead and hate.  But I mean seriously, now that we are down to a final field of sixteen sweet teams, you must give credit where credit is due, and we do a lot of that in this post!

East Region: This region packs in a lot of excitement (never was a region that didn’t), and Ohio State looks like they will win this one… Only, I do not think they will, even after the 30-plus point slaughtering of George Mason last round… Kentucky will face Ohio State, as the two hot teams square off, we will have more on this game tomorrow, as the game is Friday.  Now, North Carolina could not have made things more controversial, as the refs made a clock error with a second left in the game, when they played Washington… Harrison Barnes emerged victorious, winning the game by three points.  This game too, is tomorrow.  Prediction: I have Kentucky and North Carolina winning.

Kyle Singler has been forgotten in the Irving predicament, but remember, Singler is a great player.

West Region: The West region is extremely tough, but Duke has the best back-court in the nation, with Seth Curry, Kyrie Irving, and Nolan Smith… I will not go in depth on this one, as I HOPE to post a whole separate article tonight… But Duke looked mediocre, as they blew a lead against Michigan, escaping with a victory, they will face Arizona tomorrow night.  In the bottom half, Kemba Walker’s UCONN will face San Diego State tomorrow night, as well.  This region is stacked, but Duke will emerge the victor, do not worry…. Catch a prediction article later tonight!

Well, its only five eastern time right now, hence there is lots of time to post a few more articles, stay tuned!

A topic we discuss often, Duke University, faced a very good Michigan squad today, but they only won by two… What hurts more is the fact that Duke led by 15…. Not sold that Duke didn’t play their best yet?  Michigan got a lay-up at the buzzer that would have sent the game to overtime, only the shot missed.

Surely Duke fans are expect the Blue Devils to recover from the dissapointment, but really, with Kyrie Irving back in the line-up, people should expect better from the Blue Devils… Or else… An upset will come to the mist soon, very soon.  The good news is that Duke has made the Final cut of sixteen teams, and Texas/Arizona is very beatable.

Prediction: In this shorter post, I would like to acknowledge the way the Blue Devils always come back, Coach K got his 900th win today, and there is a reason for that… It is no enigma to me, that Duke will come into their next game on fire, and just light things up!

The good: Kyrie Irving attacked today, putting up 10 plus points again, in limited minutes.  Andre Dawkins proved that his shot will be deadly the rest of the way, and overall, the Blue Devils played okay.
