Big East Power Rankings 2/4

Hi, Friday is a day where I plan on giving to you my power rankings, pertaining to any large subdivision of the sports world, and this week, its Big East basketball, the conference I find the most exciting from all across college campuses!

  1. Pittsburgh Panthers – One of the top five teams in the country, with only two losses, the Panthers whom are atop the Big East standings, at 8-1 in conference play, hence, it shouldn’t bring forth to you any suprise that the Panthers pound in here at the number one spot!  The resùme for Pittsburgh is looking pretty decent.
  2. Notre Dame Fighting Irish – Suprise!  That is just what type of team Notre Dame is this year, ranking in the top ten for the second week in a row. All is well in Hansbrough town, after the Irish improve to 7-3 in conference play with a blow out win over Depaul.
  3. Louisville Cardinals– Ranking fourth in the Big East, I really like this Cardinals squad because of the balanced offense and the amazing shooting ability from their back court.  This team is going to have a strong finish, a wise man once said “Any team that can shoot, can win.”
  4. Villanova Wildcats – Corey Fisher is yet to put up 100 points in a single game as he supposedly did this summer, albeit he has had a great season, leading his squad to the top of the Big East.  This is a team, though,  I have a hard time believing they will stay consistent.
  5. West Virginia Mountaineers – Bobby Huggins deserves a hug for stringing together another tough squad after Duke dethroned them at the Final Four last year! Casey Mitchell is a provider of senior leadership for this young WVU squad.
  6. Syracuse Orange
  7. Cincinnati Bearcats
  8. Connecticut Huskies
  9. Georgetown Bulldogs
  10. St. John’s Red Storm
  11. Seton Hall Pirates
  12. Marquette Golden Eagles
  13. Providence Friars
  14. Rutgers Scarlet Knights
  15. South Florida Bulls
  16. Depaul Blue Demons

Only team’s in the top 35 percentile received captions, italics indicate no caption for a reason.

College basketball, the home of the upset, the cinderella story, the home of the Depaul Blue Demons.   Depaul has not won a Big East game in forever, let alone this season.  Henceforth, my predection, as proclaimed in the title, that Depaul will knock off ninth ranked Notre Dame may seem… crazy.   Although, really, it is not.

Depaul has had close games all season!  They are one of the youngest teams in the country and has one of the top freshmen in all the nation in Cleveland Melvin!  This pressing team has a chance to be a tournament team next year!  You heard it here first!  But, I am focusing on tonight for now.

If you have the Big Easy Network, you know what I am talking about here, Depaul usually is within eight points half way through the second half, yet they seemingly can’t pull it out, they pulled this charade against West Virginia (lost by two), Georgetown, and Seton Hall…  If they make their shots early, this game will be theirs, because I know how good Ben Hansburough is, I just don’t think they’re ready for the shock they might see at Depaul tonight…. That’s why this game is a must watch.  How bout that Big East!

Prediction: Depaul 62 Notre Dame 57
