Just a note, until summer, Jacob Sports will not be in full out coverage of the sports world.

West:

San Antonio Spurs (1) vs. Memphis Grizzlies (8)  Its hard not to take the one seed, especially when they have the experience that the Spurs possess.  Tony Parker, Tim Duncan, and Manu Ginobli all know how to win games late in the year, Spurs show off their number one seed early.  Spurs in five.

Oklahoma City Thunder (4) vs. Denver Nuggets (5) The average fan would have given up on the Nuggets after Anthony and Billups were given away to the Knicks, but the Nuggets have as good a chance as any now! Although, as I say, you need a guard who can score at any time, in the playoffs.  The Thunder have that in superstar Kevin Durant.  Thunder in six.

Dallas Mavericks (3) vs. Portland Trailblazers (6)  Everybody has a chance to see the light of the Finals in the Western Conference, except the Spurs.  While everything is bigger in Texas, their chances of winning it all are very slim.  While Big Dirk is a great player, I believe that the Mavericks are overrated.  Upset, Trailblazers in seven!

Los Angeles Lakers (2) vs. New Orleans Hornets (7)  Kobe and company are hungry for a three-peat.  Only, that didn’t show in the last five games of the season, where the Lakers went 1-4, their only win coming against the top seeded Spurs.  Still, the Lakers will sweep here.

East:

Chicago Bulls (1) vs. Indiana Pacers (8) The Bulls are led by the Great Drive, Derrick Rose.  In marvelous fashion the Bulls won today, 104-99, after trailing the whole game.  Derrick Rose proved that his Bulls are the best, although their inexperience may give way to one game in this series..  Bulls in five.

Orlando Magic (4) vs. Atlanta Hawks (5) Late in the season Dwight Howard and Quentin Richardson both were given suspensions, a shame as the Magic have what it takes to go deep.  A monster in the post, Superman, a stellar leading guard, Jameer Nelson, and the shooting (Gilbert Arenas, JJ Redick, Ryan Anderson).  Albeit, the Hawks are a tough customer,  the Magic will be fine if they stay suspension-free.  Magic in seven.

Boston Celtics (3) vs. New York Knicks (6) If the Knicks actually decide to show up on the defensive end, this could be the greatest first round series of all time.  The Celtics big three haven’t seem as hungry as of late, but in a playoff atmosphere, you better believe the green jersey’s have an appetite.  Interesting to see how the Knicks fare in their first real test as a new group. Celtics in five.

Miami Heat (2) vs. Philadelphia 76ers (7) Outside of the state of Florida, just about every casual fan has hated on the Heat since the arrival of Lebron James and Chris Bosh.  Writers acclaimed the Heat to have the best season of all time, which they did not.  I believe the Heat are starting to mesh together well, and that they can win playoff games.  Heat sweep.

Tomorrow I hope to post my second round predictions.

Happy St Patrick’s Day to all, I hope you brought your green in here today, as we have an extended version of  Daily Dose! And I breakdown all the games!

See ya later, alligator. Anyone who has visited my blog on a previous occasion would tell you that I love upsets, so you can make the presumption that I’m just loving the tournament right now!  Earlier today, actually just an hour ago, the game between Louisville (fourth seed) and Morehead State (thirteenth seed) wrapped up with a three pointer by Demonte Harper, and Pitino’s squad (Lousiville) looses, 62 to 61.

Man, I sure can pick ’em. Again, I speak not of anything to do with a prediction I made about a game, but about the whole tournament in general, or at least the Western Bracket… Remember, the past two posts I predicted Kyrie Irving would come back… Granted, I predicted all this before he even practiced with the team…  Anyhow, Coach K said that Kyrie Irving WILL be playing in Friday’s opener against Hampton, but of course, with only limited minutes… Here come the Blue Devils!

See ya later, alligator (Part Two). I am lovin’ it, and McDonald’s is not even a sponsor! (For you ignoramuses that was a pun), right when I thought it could not get any better, the buzzer was beat again, twice… First, Matt Howard (yes, the same one that lost to Duke in the finale last season) came up big against ninth seeded Old Dominion, as the Butler Bulldogs again put on the glass slipper, winning 60-58… Secondly, Penn State trailed by three with ten seconds left, Taylor Battle stood outside the arch by about six feet, pulled up and nailed it…. Only the shot was matched at the other end, and Temple beat Penn State.

NBA News Any other sporting news that is relevant during March Madness will be posted at the end of each sport dose, seeing as I have slotted myself into full tournament mode…  The Bulls have looked great as of late, as they are tied for the top spot in the East, follow this team, they have potential for greatness.  In other brief news, Durant poured in 29 points, as the Thunder beat the Heat.

PICKS

Chicago Bulls at New Jersey Nets Now, every other person will probably say, the Nets suck… BLAH BLAH BLAH… They are one of the hottest teams in basketball with Deron Williams, they’ve won five straight, the Bulls have won seven straight… Bulls win.

Memphis Grizzlies at New York Knicks Two teams that are really fighting for a playoff spot, now has the weight of knowing every game is important… The newly strengthened Knicks team will be too strong. Knicks win.

Wofford at BYU Jimmer Ferdette needs to get angry, and stay angry if they aren’t going to get upset today, but they won’t… BYU advances.

Bucknell at UCONN UPSET…. Just kidding, Kemba Walker is playing, the guy is a beast…. Experts have picked Bucknell, but don’t let them fool you, Walker is on the better team.

Welcome, to Jacob’s Sports for what, I believe, is almost been a month of 31 (what you get when you add 24 and 7) sports coverage.  Two recent sport events will be broken down in this post, and FOUR games will be predicted, join along!

I was reluctant to call it a bad trade, because it was a good one. Boston faced criticism everywhere after trading away an injured Kendrick Perkins to the Thunder, honestly though, Jeff Green is a stud, and he proved that last night, scoring 21 off the bench in the Celtics four point win of the Warrior’s. Could this trade be the key to an NBA Title, or is this just a pretty darned close fake key?  Boston is 4-0 since the trade, albeit one can not consider that a real telling point, seeing as Kendrick Perkins would not have played in any of those four games anyways.  Nenad Kristic is really a small factor, but he is a good foot and a half taller than Nate Robinson.

Haters, here is something worth smiling about! Now, as a blogger, its not like I am just some emotionless automaton from the late 18th century, I know who hates who, and I know plenty of people will jump for joy when they hear that the Miami Heat lost, once again.  This time though, there was no late comeback staged, nothing was close at all, the Heat lost to the 51-11 Spurs, by thirty points.  There is nothing funny about it, no excuses, the Spurs had 125 points, and no individual had more than 20!  Time after time again, the Heat get extinguished! The Bulls won last night, tieing the Heat for the number two seed in the East.

PREDICTIONS

Duke Blue Devils at North Carolina Tar Heels Duke won the first match-up, after trailing by 14 points at the half, but if Duke gets down early in this one, coming back will be much more difficult then the previous affair.  Honestly though, Kyrie Irving would have guaranteed Duke a win today, albeit he is hurt, and probably is not playing again today.  Well, I still think Duke is the better team, but if their shooters get cold, they have little to no chance of winning.  Still, I pick Duke.

Chicago Blackhawks at Toronto Maple Leafs Briefly in this post, I mentioned that the Chicago Bulls are red hot, owning rights to second place in the Eastern Conference, likewise, the other United Center-based team is also peaking at the right time, winning six in a row.  The Captain Toews has recorded five goals in the past three games, henceforth, picking the Blackhawks should be little suprise.

Notre Dame at UCONN Number eight in the country meets number sixteen, ND at UCONN, it should be a great match-up, two premier guards from the Big East going at it…. Albeit, Kemba Walker will prove to clutch for the streaking Irish, I’ve got Connecticut.

Wisconsin Badgers at Ohio State Buckeyes Almost every sport fan knows the story of earlier this year…. Wisconsin knocked off the then number one Buckeyes, at Madison…. This is a whole separate chapter, as OSU is again ranked number one, but the strengthened Buckeyes are hungrier, no way does Jared Sullinger let the Buckeyes down again!

Hey guys, today I will only be picking two matchups, of which I invite you to join along with me in picking! Every Friday afternoon I will post the standings!

  1. L.A. Lakers at Oklahoma Thunder The Lakers have looked terrific in recent play, just unraveling the Clippers in the most recent showing of talent. Two of the most efficient players face off today, Kobe and Durant, in a game that will go the Lakers Way
  2. New York Knicks at Miami Heat The Knicks are coming off the shocking loss at Cleveland, and will be hungry behind the scoring of Carmelo Anthony and Amar’e Stoudemire. Its two of the biggest Big Three’s across the country, as the Heat will fall again to the Knicks!
