Butler Bulldogs vs. Virginia Commonwealth Rams Let me just give a shout out to Brad Stevens, head coach of Butler, for defying all odds in back-to-back seasons, and making two straight Final Fours!  Its funny that an eight seed can be a favorite in a Final Four game, but that is just what happens when your facing an eleven seed.  How about Shaka Smart? His team, the Rams, wasn’t supposed to even be in the field, and they had to win a play-in-game to get to where their at… In the locker room before games he seldom spoke, rather he would show clips of announcers dissing VCU, like Dickie V, when he said they shouldn’t be in the field, or Charles Barkley saying the team had no shot at beating Kansas… Well they did, and in this tournament alone, they have beaten a PAC 10 school, a Big East school, a Big 10 school, an ACC school, and now a Big 12 school, that’s just incredible!  i recently purchased myself a VCU t-shirt, yeah, I jumped on the bandwagon… Bias affects my pick, but… VCU!

Kentucky vs. Connecticut While its hard to compete with the excitement of two Cinderella teams squaring off, this game is probably going to be one of the closest Final Four games in history, as Brandon Knight faces off against Kemba Walker’s Huskies, a team that has now won nine games in a row, all on neutral territory.  But the question remains, can Kemba keep turning out the victor?  I believe so, but if the Wildcats are going to win this game, then they need to stop the penetration… How can Kentucky win this game?  As I said, defensively they need to stop all penetration, and on the offensive end they need to go down low, Connecticut is not very deep.  So, who will win?  The answer is simple, whoever has more luck.  Thats usually how March Madness is, which team gets hot and lucky?  Connecticut will win though.

Detroit Tigers vs. New York Yankees The Yankees blasted the Tigers on opening day, winning 6-3, Joba Chamberlain became the victor, and Rivera got the save.  I expect to see a more focused Tigers team today, as they again compete on a national level.  While I expect it to be close, I think that AJ Burnett shows some consistency, and the Yankees win.

Last year, like every season, tickets for the Final Four had to be purchased a year in advance, for a pretty penny too, only now, tickets are practically being given away down in Houston as nobody wants to see an eight, eleven, third, and fourth seed play…. But I ask, why? I mean, its so exciting to be at the games, and now you get to see part of history, as an eleventh seed may just take home the crown!  To my readers, I suggest you go down to Houston, buy a ticket, grab some popcorn, and jump on the Virginia Commonwealth bandwagon!  But first, read my Final Four Preview!

With conference tournaments on every other channel today, I figure I have to keep some good programming up on my blog!

Yes, Kemba will be dougie-ing all the way to Texas.

Kemba Walker is just too much to handle. ESPN made me flashback to when UCONN and Syracuse last met in the Big East playoffs, which ended with the Orange men on top, after six overtimes!  However, Kemba Walker and the Huskies only needed five extra minutes to get revenge, beating eleventh ranked Syracuse, 76-71… Of course, Kemba Walker was the hero with 33 points of his own.

Even with win over UCONN, Kemba Walker is not the best player. Maybe he is the best player in the nation, albeit someone had a much bigger game in the college basketball world, by the name of Jimmer Ferdette… With a record school high 52 points!  30 of those came in the first half!  He might just clinch a BYU scoring title of all-time, as they play in the MVC Championship today against San Diego State!

To Duke fans, Kyrie's return would seem like the second coming of Jesus Christ.

Kyrie Irving? Kyrie Irving? Duke fans you will be shocked!! As you may have saw last night, my predictions are usually pretty dang close, per se, I picked Colorado to BEAT Kansas last night, even though they lost by seven… I picked UCONN to winn, and they won… And now my biggest pick will not be coming in the upcoming Picks article… Whereas I will state it here explicitly, Kyrie Irving will play again in a Duke uniform against North Carolina.  Now, I know that no one is looking to deep into his practicing with the team yesterday, but with Nolan Smith only questionable for this weekend, is it possible Irving will dress?  I just have a feeling that tomorrow Duke will play UNC, and Kyrie Irving, will play… Duke beat Maryland last night by about 15 points, and Kyle Singler had 29 points…. Albeit, Nolan Smith went down with injury to his toe late in the game… His return is questionable.

My Picks 3/11

Its a good thing its Friday, so that I can finally get the My Picks section up and going again!

Maryland Terrapins at Duke Blue Devils* In this ACC Conference tournament showdown in Greensboro, I was going to pick Maryland to take the upset, as I think they have what it takes… Albeit, I doubt the Blue Devils would let themselves drop a second in a row… I am taking the Dukies.

UCONN Huskies at Syracuse Orangemen* Another tournemant college match-up, seeds a game that the underdog will win in my opinion… Kemba Walker takes over the game and UCONN wins!

Colorado at Kansas* No team looks hotter than Kansas, and no team looks colder than Colorado, as they are on a 17 game skid… Hey, the Cavilers pulled one out of their hat eventually, and Colorado will today!

Welcome, to Jacob’s Sports for what, I believe, is almost been a month of 31 (what you get when you add 24 and 7) sports coverage.  Two recent sport events will be broken down in this post, and FOUR games will be predicted, join along!

I was reluctant to call it a bad trade, because it was a good one. Boston faced criticism everywhere after trading away an injured Kendrick Perkins to the Thunder, honestly though, Jeff Green is a stud, and he proved that last night, scoring 21 off the bench in the Celtics four point win of the Warrior’s. Could this trade be the key to an NBA Title, or is this just a pretty darned close fake key?  Boston is 4-0 since the trade, albeit one can not consider that a real telling point, seeing as Kendrick Perkins would not have played in any of those four games anyways.  Nenad Kristic is really a small factor, but he is a good foot and a half taller than Nate Robinson.

Haters, here is something worth smiling about! Now, as a blogger, its not like I am just some emotionless automaton from the late 18th century, I know who hates who, and I know plenty of people will jump for joy when they hear that the Miami Heat lost, once again.  This time though, there was no late comeback staged, nothing was close at all, the Heat lost to the 51-11 Spurs, by thirty points.  There is nothing funny about it, no excuses, the Spurs had 125 points, and no individual had more than 20!  Time after time again, the Heat get extinguished! The Bulls won last night, tieing the Heat for the number two seed in the East.

PREDICTIONS

Duke Blue Devils at North Carolina Tar Heels Duke won the first match-up, after trailing by 14 points at the half, but if Duke gets down early in this one, coming back will be much more difficult then the previous affair.  Honestly though, Kyrie Irving would have guaranteed Duke a win today, albeit he is hurt, and probably is not playing again today.  Well, I still think Duke is the better team, but if their shooters get cold, they have little to no chance of winning.  Still, I pick Duke.

Chicago Blackhawks at Toronto Maple Leafs Briefly in this post, I mentioned that the Chicago Bulls are red hot, owning rights to second place in the Eastern Conference, likewise, the other United Center-based team is also peaking at the right time, winning six in a row.  The Captain Toews has recorded five goals in the past three games, henceforth, picking the Blackhawks should be little suprise.

Notre Dame at UCONN Number eight in the country meets number sixteen, ND at UCONN, it should be a great match-up, two premier guards from the Big East going at it…. Albeit, Kemba Walker will prove to clutch for the streaking Irish, I’ve got Connecticut.

Wisconsin Badgers at Ohio State Buckeyes Almost every sport fan knows the story of earlier this year…. Wisconsin knocked off the then number one Buckeyes, at Madison…. This is a whole separate chapter, as OSU is again ranked number one, but the strengthened Buckeyes are hungrier, no way does Jared Sullinger let the Buckeyes down again!

Title is more than self-explanatory!

  1. Bulls extinguish Heat. How many times have we seen a game like this?  A team leads the whole game, in this case the Heat, albeit when it matters most, they trail! Leading the whole game, the Heat did, until late in the third quarter when Derrick Rose drove in for a lay up!  It was all Bulls after that, putting the lead up to nine points at one instance!  Chris Bosh shot poorly (1-18 from the field), in the Heat’s 93-89 loss to the Bulls.
  2. Martin led all scorers, with 18.

Mello?  Nah, they’ve got the yellow! The Nuggets, with Raymond Felton, and without Billups and Anthony, beat the Celtics last night, in a game that was really the Nuggets from the start of the second quarter!  While the Celtics were without Kendrick Perkins (shipped to Oklahoma for Jeff Green), they still had their big three, leaving the question, are the Nuggets really actually good after this trade?  I think not, but they did just beat the Celtics 89-75….. Newly acquired Wilson Chandler chimed in 16 points and five rebounds off the bench.

  3. Overtime! Over-rated! When I say upset, your mind should immediately think “Big East!?”  Seeing as that conference is strong all around, boasting many upsets. The most recent one came last night, as Marquette walked into UCONN unranked, and walked out leaving Kemba Walker unhappy.  In overtime, the away team winning is very rare,  especially at the University of Connecticut!  Regardless,  Calhoun-less UCONN lost 74-67!

Bracketology, its not even in the dictionary, but its a word almost all college basketball fans know about.  Its where a writer predicts the NCAA March Madness field, today I won’t go as far as to predict the whole field, but the top eight seeds.

Overall number one seed: Ohio State Buckeyes.  How can you not give it to the undefeated Buckeyes, home of the top freshman, maybe top player, in the country!  Good times in Ohio!  I gotta hand it to them though, one year its Greg Oden, then its Evan Turner, now its Jared Sullivan, the recruits keep comin!

Second Number One Seed: Kansas Jayhawks. The one loss Jayhawks are looking as the favorite to win the Big 12, with great guard play, I expect to see Kansas in Houston!  Heck, who would have thought that a Aldrich and Collins-less Jayhawks would be a one loss team this late in the year?

Third Number One Seed: Duke Blue Devils. This to me, poses the one seed that I have high doubts in, Duke looked bad against St. Johns, and unless they start picking up the slack, this prediction will turn widely inaccurate… But then again,  Coach K always has something up his sleeve.

Fourth Number One Seed: San Diego State. The reason I think the only loss Aztecs will pull off a undefeated rest of the season is simply due to their defense.  SDS is eleventh in the country in points allowed per game, and we all know that any team with a defense can win games.

First Number Two Seed: Pittsburgh Panthers. They only have one loss as of now, but the Panthers are in the toughest conference in the world, where anyone can, and will beat anyone on any night.  They have numerous tough games left, so don’t be surprised if they lose two or three more.

Second Number Two Seed: UCONN Huskies: As the second Big East team in this segment, UCONN is probably not getting a one seed this year, albeit I believe Kemba Walker can carry this team all the way to the Final Four, and beyond!

Third Number Two Seed: Brigham Young Cougars. Beware of Ferdette!  The best player in the country always seems to find a way to take his team deep into March, and the Cougars have a good as chance as any!  As long as they can win out, I believe they’ll get a two spot.

Final Number Two Seed: The Orange Men: The Syracuse Orange have a very tough Big East schedule, but if they win out in the regular season, which they probably will,  Kris Joseph and the Orange Men will be the second great team that ‘Cuse has showed us in consecutive seasons…. Too bad Wesley Johnson is no longer on the roster.

There you have it, stay tuned for further updates…. Watch out for the Big East!
