Posts Tagged ‘March Madness’

Last year, like every season, tickets for the Final Four had to be purchased a year in advance, for a pretty penny too, only now, tickets are practically being given away down in Houston as nobody wants to see an eight, eleven, third, and fourth seed play…. But I ask, why? I mean, its so exciting to be at the games, and now you get to see part of history, as an eleventh seed may just take home the crown!  To my readers, I suggest you go down to Houston, buy a ticket, grab some popcorn, and jump on the Virginia Commonwealth bandwagon!  But first, read my Final Four Preview!

Kentucky vs. Connecticut While its hard to compete with the excitement of two Cinderella teams squaring off, this game is probably going to be one of the closest Final Four games in history, as Brandon Knight faces off against Kemba Walker’s Huskies, a team that has now won nine games in a row, all on neutral territory.  But the question remains, can Kemba keep turning out the victor?  I believe so, but if the Wildcats are going to win this game, then they need to stop the penetration… How can Kentucky win this game?  As I said, defensively they need to stop all penetration, and on the offensive end they need to go down low, Connecticut is not very deep.  So, who will win?  The answer is simple, whoever has more luck.  Thats usually how March Madness is, which team gets hot and lucky?  Connecticut will win though.

Virginia Commonwealth vs. Butler Let me just give a shout out to Brad Stevens, head coach of Butler, for defying all odds in back-to-back seasons, and making two straight Final Fours!  Its funny that an eight seed can be a favorite in a Final Four game, but that is just what happens when your facing an eleven seed.  How about Shaka Smart? His team, the Rams, wasn’t supposed to even be in the field, and they had to win a play-in-game to get to where their at… In the locker room before games he seldom spoke, rather he would show clips of announcers dissing VCU, like Dickie V, when he said they shouldn’t be in the field, or Charles Barkley saying the team had no shot at beating Kansas… Well they did, and in this tournament alone, they have beaten a PAC 10 school, a Big East school, a Big 10 school, an ACC school, and now a Big 12 school, that’s just incredible!  i recently purchased myself a VCU t-shirt, yeah, I jumped on the bandwagon… Bias affects my pick, but… VCU!

Check out all picks articles as standings are now up!

I broke down the other two regions in the previous posts, and here comes the second post!

Southeast Region: I called it, the upset over Pittsburgh, and now we have an eighth ranked team playing a four seed, Butler and Wisconsin… Frankly, I think Wisconsin is very overrated, even though they already beat Ohio State earlier this season, and I think Butler advances to the Elite Eight.  Jimmer’s Cougars will play a team that is also overrated, the Florida Gators… Yes, you can tell where this one is headed, Florida will loose, BYU advances to the regional finale.

Southwest Region: Other than Duke, there is no team I love to watch play, more than Virginia Commonwealth, this new found love just became as I saw them play live Friday and Sunday night, at the United Center… Its a great atmostphere, when the eleven seed wins three straight games, and is now in the Sweet Sixteen… They play an aggressive defense, and they rarely miss the many threes they take… Bye Purdue! Notre Dame was thwarted by Florida State, the team that VCU plays.. And in the top half of the region, Kansas should blow by Richmond, but many thought that about Northern Iowa.

NOTE: I will be taking a short leave of absence, the rest of the week, and when I come back, its baseball time!!!

You have to love Virginia Commonwealth University, unless you are Purdue, or Georgetown, in which case, go ahead and hate.  But I mean seriously, now that we are down to a final field of sixteen sweet teams, you must give credit where credit is due, and we do a lot of that in this post!

East Region: This region packs in a lot of excitement (never was a region that didn’t), and Ohio State looks like they will win this one… Only, I do not think they will, even after the 30-plus point slaughtering of George Mason last round… Kentucky will face Ohio State, as the two hot teams square off, we will have more on this game tomorrow, as the game is Friday.  Now, North Carolina could not have made things more controversial, as the refs made a clock error with a second left in the game, when they played Washington… Harrison Barnes emerged victorious, winning the game by three points.  This game too, is tomorrow.  Prediction: I have Kentucky and North Carolina winning.

Kyle Singler has been forgotten in the Irving predicament, but remember, Singler is a great player.

West Region: The West region is extremely tough, but Duke has the best back-court in the nation, with Seth Curry, Kyrie Irving, and Nolan Smith… I will not go in depth on this one, as I HOPE to post a whole separate article tonight… But Duke looked mediocre, as they blew a lead against Michigan, escaping with a victory, they will face Arizona tomorrow night.  In the bottom half, Kemba Walker’s UCONN will face San Diego State tomorrow night, as well.  This region is stacked, but Duke will emerge the victor, do not worry…. Catch a prediction article later tonight!

Well, its only five eastern time right now, hence there is lots of time to post a few more articles, stay tuned!

Hey guys, in this post I will break down all the action we saw last night, as well as what to expect in today’s games!

Its Jimmer Time

Man, oh man, I am a genius(Southeast Region). Call me conceded, but how many of you had Pitt getting knocked off by Butler in the second round? Yeah, that is what I thought, I’ve got Kansas State coming out of that regional, and unfortunately, they just got knocked off by Wisconsin.  Jacob Pullen looked great, totaling a sum of 60 points in the two games his team played, too bad it was to no avail! No upsets in the bottom half of this region, as Fredette’s Cougars look to take on the Gators in the Sweet Sixteen.  The Sweet Sixteen in this region is: Butler, Wisconsin, Brigham Young, and Florida.

Southeast Region Games Today:

Kentucky is good, just not lucky(East Region) Kentucky is very very good, they just have lost too many close ones, so if their luck turns, I will favor them to go to Houston, their already halfway there, after winning yesterday, the team advanced to the Sweet Sixteen.  George Mason plays Ohio State tonight, this game can be found on CBS.  There is a bracket buster here, Marquette, after beating a six-seeded Musketeer team in the first round, the field is open for the Golden Eagles.

East Region Picks For Today:

Ohio State (1) vs. George Mason (8) There was a guy on yahoo sports or some other big website that had predicted the upset in this one, I am not going to.  I believe that Ohio State WILL win this game, albeit exit the tournament to Kentucky in the Sweet Sixteen.

Marquette (11) vs. Syracuse (3) Here’s a game that you should expect the unexpected in… A lot of people though Xavier would be here, albeit the Golden Eagles have taken their place, and I believe they will pull the upset… Marquette wins.

North Carolina (2) vs. Washington (7) I have gone crazy, and think that Washington is going to win this game… Just kidding, I have North Carolina in my Final Four, but lets just say this: I am expecting this to be the best game today, and it is also the earliest.  Tar Heels win.

Can you say beast?

He’s back! Boy, am I getting redundant. (West Region) In a first round game that I got to say little about, Kyrie Irving dropped a team-high 14 points against Hampton, in his first game off the bench… If he start’s today against Michigan, and sees a lot of minutes, they will blow the Wolverines right out of the tourney. UCONN and San Diego State (in double OT) both advanced to the Sweet Sixteen yesterday.

West Region Games:

Duke(1) vs. Michigan (8) I already said it, Kyrie Irving is back in what seems to be full force, but today will be the telling point. Duke wins.

Texas (4) vs. Arizona (5) Well, I really was expecting to see Oakland play Memphis in this match-up, so I’ll go with Texas.

Richmond? The Spiders? (Southwest Region) Yesterday Morehead State played the Richmond Spiders, a 12 verse a 13, the twelve won, Richmond.  And they have advanced to the Sweet Sixteen… The only team yet to emerge from that region… Kansas has the Illini tonight, VCU plays Purdue, and Florida State squares off against the Irish.

Pick along.

Hello all, I know I was expecting to check in a lot more this weekend, albeit I will not be able to… And all I can tell you is the following:

I will have great pictures from all the college basketball events that have went down as of late… The Chicago Bulls just keep winning, and college basketball is going fantastic!

Your Kyrie Irving update: Kyrie played limited minutes off the bench yesterday, albeit he looked great, with a team-high of 14 points, imagine what he could have done in forty minutes of play!  Duke is going to get hot, watch out.

Happy St Patrick’s Day to all, I hope you brought your green in here today, as we have an extended version of  Daily Dose! And I breakdown all the games!

See ya later, alligator. Anyone who has visited my blog on a previous occasion would tell you that I love upsets, so you can make the presumption that I’m just loving the tournament right now!  Earlier today, actually just an hour ago, the game between Louisville (fourth seed) and Morehead State (thirteenth seed) wrapped up with a three pointer by Demonte Harper, and Pitino’s squad (Lousiville) looses, 62 to 61.

Man, I sure can pick ’em. Again, I speak not of anything to do with a prediction I made about a game, but about the whole tournament in general, or at least the Western Bracket… Remember, the past two posts I predicted Kyrie Irving would come back… Granted, I predicted all this before he even practiced with the team…  Anyhow, Coach K said that Kyrie Irving WILL be playing in Friday’s opener against Hampton, but of course, with only limited minutes… Here come the Blue Devils!

See ya later, alligator (Part Two). I am lovin’ it, and McDonald’s is not even a sponsor! (For you ignoramuses that was a pun), right when I thought it could not get any better, the buzzer was beat again, twice… First, Matt Howard (yes, the same one that lost to Duke in the finale last season) came up big against ninth seeded Old Dominion, as the Butler Bulldogs again put on the glass slipper, winning 60-58… Secondly, Penn State trailed by three with ten seconds left, Taylor Battle stood outside the arch by about six feet, pulled up and nailed it…. Only the shot was matched at the other end, and Temple beat Penn State.

NBA News Any other sporting news that is relevant during March Madness will be posted at the end of each sport dose, seeing as I have slotted myself into full tournament mode…  The Bulls have looked great as of late, as they are tied for the top spot in the East, follow this team, they have potential for greatness.  In other brief news, Durant poured in 29 points, as the Thunder beat the Heat.

Chicago Bulls at New Jersey Nets Now, every other person will probably say, the Nets suck… BLAH BLAH BLAH… They are one of the hottest teams in basketball with Deron Williams, they’ve won five straight, the Bulls have won seven straight… Bulls win.

Memphis Grizzlies at New York Knicks Two teams that are really fighting for a playoff spot, now has the weight of knowing every game is important… The newly strengthened Knicks team will be too strong. Knicks win.

Wofford at BYU Jimmer Ferdette needs to get angry, and stay angry if they aren’t going to get upset today, but they won’t… BYU advances.

Bucknell at UCONN UPSET…. Just kidding, Kemba Walker is playing, the guy is a beast…. Experts have picked Bucknell, but don’t let them fool you, Walker is on the better team.
