You have to love Virginia Commonwealth University, unless you are Purdue, or Georgetown, in which case, go ahead and hate.  But I mean seriously, now that we are down to a final field of sixteen sweet teams, you must give credit where credit is due, and we do a lot of that in this post!

East Region: This region packs in a lot of excitement (never was a region that didn’t), and Ohio State looks like they will win this one… Only, I do not think they will, even after the 30-plus point slaughtering of George Mason last round… Kentucky will face Ohio State, as the two hot teams square off, we will have more on this game tomorrow, as the game is Friday.  Now, North Carolina could not have made things more controversial, as the refs made a clock error with a second left in the game, when they played Washington… Harrison Barnes emerged victorious, winning the game by three points.  This game too, is tomorrow.  Prediction: I have Kentucky and North Carolina winning.

Kyle Singler has been forgotten in the Irving predicament, but remember, Singler is a great player.

West Region: The West region is extremely tough, but Duke has the best back-court in the nation, with Seth Curry, Kyrie Irving, and Nolan Smith… I will not go in depth on this one, as I HOPE to post a whole separate article tonight… But Duke looked mediocre, as they blew a lead against Michigan, escaping with a victory, they will face Arizona tomorrow night.  In the bottom half, Kemba Walker’s UCONN will face San Diego State tomorrow night, as well.  This region is stacked, but Duke will emerge the victor, do not worry…. Catch a prediction article later tonight!

Well, its only five eastern time right now, hence there is lots of time to post a few more articles, stay tuned!

Four things about sports is a daily update on four things that happened in the sports world the day before, and this is the first edition of it!

  1. Brandon Jennings returns to starting line up of the Bucks. After being sidelined with injury in almost 20 straight games, Brandon Jennings played limited minutes at 24, piling in six points, six rebounds, and five rebounds in a losing effort to the Suns.  I will monitor him in the coming weeks to track his success.
  2. Duke redeems themselves in win over Maryland. After being blown out to an unranked St. John’s team in a matinee Sunday, the Blue Devils visited the Terrapins in Maryland, where after ten minutes of play, their guards took over.  Up 15 half way through the second, Maryland looked to take over after going on a run, cutting the lead to five, that effort was quickly thwarted by the shooting ability of Nolan Smith, Andre Dawkins, and Seth Curry.  Smith and Kyle Singler both recorded over twenty points as the Duke Blue Devils won 80-62.
  3. Golden Gophers not so Golden! The eighteenth ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers were beat for the second straight time, first by Purdue, and last night by the unranked Indiana Hoosiers!  We all know how tough it is to win on the road in conference play, and I think Minnesota now knows more than anyone.  The home Hoosiers won by three in a very balanced scoring effort, whereas their leading scorer only posted 12 points.
  4. Hat Trick?  What you talking about Hat Trick!? In what seemed to be a goalie-less game, the Detroit Red Wings beat the Ottawa Senators 7-5 in three periods.  12 goals isn’t the absurd part of this game.  Johan Franzen recorded FIVE goals in this game, if I was a fan, I would’ve thrown a hat onto the ice at every goal he recorded after his third.  Apparently hat trick isn’t part of his vocabulary, but a Grets-trick is! Five goals.  One game.

That’ll do it for today’s installment of Four Things About Sports.
